Exodus 33:1-3(NIV)Then the Lord said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way.”
Exodus 33:4-6 When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments. For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’” So the Israelite stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.
In verses 1-6: The Lord said to Moses, you can go up to the land flowing with mild and honey, but I will not go with you, because of your disobedience. By the way, because you are stiff-necked, I might destroy you on the way.it was a message of displeasure ….they needed to make things right with God before HE would show his Glory to them…
When we humble ourselves before the Lord, God promises to hear and respond..It is each one of our responsibilities to bow down, humble ourselves before the Lord. God doesn’t send HIS glory until we intentionally humble ourselves
Exodus 33:10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent
I see something here…they all worshiped..Moses interceded for these people and God granted them mercy!..and i see Moses realizing that he cannot do it on his own..He asked God for help..He hungers for more of God and in verse 13 ” If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”…
We cannot lead on our own..if we are not humbling yourselves before him and seeking his face, God is not going to show us HIS glory. It is Sin that separates us from the Glory of God..It is the little things in our lives that we have taken for granted, our attitude, lack of faith, dirty habits, lack of devotion and consideration for God..
Exodus 34:29- 32 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. When Aaron and all the Israelite’s saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. Afterward all the Israelite came near him, and he gave them all the commands the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai
